Espanyol have completed the signing of Mauricio Pochettino on loan from Bordeaux until the end of the season.
The Spanish outfit have handed the Argentinian defender a return to Catalunya, over two years after he left Montjuic.
Pochettino initially joined Espanyol nearly a decade ago before switching to Paris Saint Germain, where he played under the Spanish side's current coach Luis Fernandez.
The 31-year-old moved to Bordeaux in the summer, making 11 appearances in Le Championnat, before renewing his acquaintances with Fernandez.
The experienced stopper is delighted to secure a return to Espanyol and is desperate to lift the club off the foot of the Liga table.
"I return to my home," commented Pochettino. "I am enchanted by this possibility although I know that, for me, it is a very important professional challenge.
"I come to Espanyol with the intention of helping to improve a very complicated sporting situation.
"I know the reality of the club's situation and confront it with optimism and hope for this new stage but without forgetting we are in a very difficult spot."
Meanwhile, Fernandez's bid to bring Strasbourg midfielder Fabrice Ehret to Espanyol looks doomed to failure.
Fernandez wanted the 24-year-old to buttress his engine room but Ehret would prefer a move to Bordeaux after initial contact with Les Girondins.
