Espanyol in fresh French raid

Espanyol are close to securing a deal to land Bordeaux defender Franck Jurietti.

Espanyol are close to securing a deal to land Bordeaux defender Franck Jurietti.

The Catalan outfit are very keen to land a proven right back ahead of the new season having seen last season's first choice in that position, Hugo Ibarra, depart for Boca Juniors earlier in the summer.

The French market is very well-known to Espanyol with the club having already swooped on Marseille and Bordeaux to bring in Eduardo Costa and Albert Riera this summer.

They have now set up another swoop on Bordeaux for former Monaco man Jurietti.

The deal seems to be reliant on the 30-year-old being handed a free transfer by Bordeaux with whom he has been for the past two seasons.

Espanyol have offered the player a two-year deal with the option of a third.

Jurietti played with both Costa and Riera during his time at Bordeaux and it seems likely the two new signings have recommended the full back to their new employers.

If a deal is struck, Jurietti will become Espanyol's sixth signing of the close season.
