Bordeaux have lost ground on Ligue 1 leaders Lyon after going down to a 3-1 defeat at Paris Saint Germain.
Guy Lacombe's side claimed the points at Parc des Princes, as Portuguese goalscorer Pedro Pauleta came back to haunt his former club with a first-half hat-trick.
The Portugal international gave PSG the lead on six minutes, as he headed home Bernard Mendy's fine cross from the right for 1-0.
Les Girondins responded on 22 minutes, as Colombian striker Edixon Perea beat the offside trap to latch on to a ball forward and strike a fine shot past PSG goalkeeper Lionel Letizi for 1-1.
The home side restored their advantage for good eight minutes before the break, as Pauleta was brought down in the Bordeaux box by Marc Planus before stepping up to slot the spot kick home for 2-1.
The PSG striker wrapped up a fine first-half performance with his third goal a minute before the break - a fine near-post header to Jerome Rothen's neat cross for 3-1.
The scoreline remained until the full-time whistle, as PSG recorded their second win in three matches.
Also on Sunday, an own-goal from Lucien Aubey (73) gave Rennes a 1-0 away victory at Toulouse, while Le Mans and Nancy had to settle for a goalless draw at the Leon-Bollee.
