St Etienne have expressed their interest in buying Frenchman Johan Micoud.
St Etienne have expressed their interest in buying talented Werder Bremen midfielder Johan Micoud.
Saints chairman Bernard Caiazzo commented to French newspaper Le Progres that the club had a substantial budget available to secure the 33 year-old.
He commented that it would be the club's intention to build a new team around the player.
Caiazzo's comments come soon after the midfielder denied any contact with Paris Saint Germain, stating on RMC radio that he had held no talks with Paris head coach Guy Lacombe.
However, St Etienne's hopes of securing Micoud could be dashed and the Frenchman's number one destination is still expected to be Bordeaux.
The Frenchman is thought to favour the prospect of UEFA Champions League football with Les Girondins.
