Ilan close to Les Verts move

St Etienne are closing on the capture of Brazilian striker Ilan from Sochaux.

St Etienne are closing on the capture of Sochaux striker Ilan, according to reports.

The Brazilian is keen to leave the Stade Bonal in search of a new challenge and Bordeaux were early favourites for his signature.

However, Les Verts appear to have stolen a march on their rivals to agree a deal with Sochaux for Ilan's services.

The 25-year-old is reportedly close to sealing a four-year deal at the Stade Geoffrey-Guichard and will be unveiled as a St Etienne player in the next few days.

Another player attracting the interest of coach Ivan Hasek is Le Mans midfielder Yohann Hautcoeur, although they may be unable to agree a transfer fee for the 25-year-old.

Hautcoeur is under contract at Le Mans until 2007 and a fee over ‚é¼3 million (£2 million) may frighten off the interest from St Etienne.

Trialists Renaud Cohade and Kanfory Sylla will not be offered contracts by coach Hasek after failing to impress during their time training with the club.
