Bordeaux coach Laurent Blanc claimed the experience of the Roma players contributed to the key dismissal of defender Henrique in the Italians' 3-1 UEFA Champions League win.
Bordeaux held a comfortable 1-0 lead thanks to Yoann Gourcuff's early goal when Henrique was sent off following a clash with Simone Perrotta.
"I am not someone who comments much on what happens during a game, but it cost us," said former Manchester United defender Blanc.
"The match became much more difficult, playing against Roma with 10 players. With 11 players we would have done much better.
"The Italians learn very fast. (Henrique) told me he didn't touch him and I have seen that there was no contact. But there is a player who falls to the ground. That's what I mean by experience."
Roma went on to score second-half goals through Mirko Vucinic and substitute Julio Baptista and Blanc admitted that Bordeaux's first home defeat of the season has made qualification from Group A difficult following a 4-0 defeat at Chelsea on matchday one.
He added: "I think our chances of qualifying are really hampered now. But I told my players that we played well tonight. I am very happy with how we played, even though the score went against us."
