Paris St Germain eased the pressure on coach Antoine Kombouare with a 3-2 victory over Auxerre to end their run of five games without a win.
Kombouare had been tipped for the sack if PSG had lost the clash at the Parc de Princes, but the home side took the three points to move into second spot in Ligue 1.
After a goalless first half Christophe Jallet fired PSG in front on 52 minutes, but the lead proved short-lived as Dennis Oliech drew Auxerre level.
Jeremy Menez restored PSG's lead on 75 minutes and Nene made it 3-1 from the penalty spot five minutes later.
Dariusz Dudka pulled a goal back for Auxerre three minutes from time with a superb free-kick, but PSG held on for the win.
Lyon moved up to fourth spot in the table after a thrilling 3-2 win over Toulouse at Stade Gerland.
Lyon raced into a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Bakari Kone (38), Ederson (52) and Lisandro Lopez's penalty on 66 minutes.
Umut Bulut reduced the arrears for Toulouse two minutes later and Moussa Sissoko converted a penalty 15 minutes from time to set up a tense finale, but Lyon held on to take all three points.
Bordeaux claimed their second home win of the season as they beat fellow Ligue 1 strugglers Nancy 2-0 at Stade Chaban-Delmas.
Jaroslav Plasil got Bordeaux off to the perfect start when opened the scoring in the first minute before Carlos Henrique sealed the points in the second half.
The result leaves Nancy stuck in the bottom three while Bordeaux climb to mid-table following two consecutive wins.
