Rennes chairman Pierre Dreossi has revealed his intention to keep club captain Dominique Arribage at Le Route-de-Lorient.
His claim comes after the central defender's link with a return to former club Toulouse - a move Arribage seems to desire.
However, Dreossi made clear that Rennes need to keep their skipper during next month's transfer window, with two other defenders on African Cup of Nations duty in Tunisia in the New Year.
"It is out of question to let Dominique leave," Dreossi said.
"Toulouse contacted us, but we have refused, simple as that."
It is thought Toulouse could not afford Arribage's wage demands anyway, though they seemed prepared to offer the veteran a longer-term deal - with the option for the defender to stay on at the club after his playing days came to an end.
Rennes have also turned down a loan move from Toulouse for young midfielder Olivier Sorlin.
