After earning a Championnat reprieve, Nice are now plotting to strengthen their squad ahead of a fight for survival and are believed to have commenced negotiations for the ex-Gunner.
Grimandi would be an experienced addition to the Nice ranks and his versatility would also be a useful asset.
The 31-year-old can play in defence or midfield and is searching for a new club after leaving Arsenal at the end of last season.
He quit Highbury after five years because of his desire for regular first team football and may be tempted by a return to his homeland.
Grimandi enjoyed a successful stint with Monaco before joining The Gunners and another spell in Le Championnat could be in the offing.
Meanwhile, Nice are on the cusp of wrapping up the signing of Damien Gregorini from Marseille.
Nice chairman Maurice Cohen said: "Nothing has been signed yet but I have the verbal agreement from Mr Bouchet and Mr Perrin, who will send us the loan convention this week."
