Gallardo faces two months on the sidelines, although the Monaco medical staff are still awaiting the outcome of an MRI scan to determine the full extent of the damage.
But Monaco assistant coach Jean Petit was scathing of match official Pascal Garibian's display and believes Gallardo and team-mate Ludovic Giuly were nominated for harsh treatment by their opponents.
"Against Marseille on Saturday, Mr Garibian's behaviour was a concern for me," said Petit.
"He probably couldn't see the tackle from Meite that should be sanctioned.
"Last year he said stop to the malingerer and the agitator but I think on Saturday he had a pre-conceived idea towards Marcelo.
"When he was lying on the ground, he told him: 'Stand up, it is nothing.' And he didn't let the trainers come on.
"Two years ago, there was a contract out on Marcelo (when he was hit in the Stade Velodrome tunnel) and I am starting to think there was a contract out on Ludovic and Marcelo on Saturday."
