Vahid Halilhodzic's side have endured a poor season by the club's high standards and this success was only the club's fourth in Ligue 1 this term.
But PSG had to do it the hard way after Sylvain Armand was sent off after just 20 minutes for a reckless tackle from behind on former team-mate Fabrice Fiorese, who joined Marseille in acrimonious circumstances in the summer.
The setback did not affect PSG as Pauleta put the hosts ahead on 33 minutes, only for Laurent Batlles to equalise two minutes before half time.
PSG, though, pinched a winner on 71 minutes when Edouard Cisse was on hand with a decisive finish.
Lille kept pace with champions Lyon at the top of Ligue 1 after a comfortable 2-0 win at bottom club Istres.
The promoted side are still searching for their first league success of the campaign and it is now unlucky 13 after their loss to Lille.
Peter Odemwingie's 38th minute goal broke the deadlock and Philippe Brunel's 51st minute penalty secured the win for Lille, who move to within a point of Lyon.
Auxerre remain in third spot but failed to significantly close the gap as they were held 1-1 at ten man Nantes.
Mamadou Bagayoko put the hosts in front on the stroke of half time but Nantes had Emerse Fae sent off for a second bookable offence in the second half.
Finland international Teemu Tainio (pictured) equalised for Auxerre on 77 minutes but the visitors were unable to add a second goal to their bounty.
