Metz chairman Carlo Molinari expects Jean Fernandez to join Marseille.Jean Fernandez is expected to become the next Marseille coach, after Metz chairman Carlo Molinari revealed that the tactician will not be in charge of his side next season.
After Philippe Troussier's departure on Thursday, l'OM major shareholder Robert Louis-Dreyfus is believed to have decided on the club's future direction and opted for Les Grenats boss Fernandez.
Chairman Pape Diouf and sport director Jose Anigo were divided over whether to move for Fernandez or Bruno Metsu, but Molinari has now revealed that the Metz man is already preparing for his exit.
The legendary Stade Saint-Symphorien supremo also declared that he would be pursuing a fee if, as expected, his manager made the switch to l'OM.
"Jean told me that whatever happens he won't coach Metz next season," Molinari told L'Equipe.
"He has turned the page, Jean told me he has 90 percent chance to sign there, to him it is a dream.
"For him to leave we have to find a successor and receive a fee from his new club.
"Jean was a little surprised because he thought I would not ask for money, but when a club parts with a coach the club pays, so I can not see why the contrary would be shocking."
Fernandez is believed to have been shaping his plans for the current crop of players at Stade Velodrome, and is keen to keep hold of star midfielder Benoit Pedretti.
Strasbourg ace Mamdou Niang has also been linked with a move to l'OM in the wake of Troussier's departure, although Arsenal are also interested in the Senegal international.
Meanwhile, a disappointed Molinari has identified three main candidates for his club's top job, with former Metz boss Joel Muller, Raynald Denoueix and Sochaux coach Guy Lacombe all in line to step into the void left by Fernandez
"We didn't really need [Fernandez's exit], we had a difficult end to the season," Molinari continued. "I am not angry, but a little sad.
"We want someone to work in peace, we will not hire someone unmanageable.
"The right profile is a man like Joel Muller, Jean Fernandez, we need a coach with experience in Ligue 1, which could use the players educated at the club.
"We will settle that problem as soon as possible next week."
