Rennes' 2-1 victory over Sochaux makes it eight consecutive league wins
Following a 2-1 victory over Sochaux at the weekend, Rennes achieved an historic eighth consecutive win in Ligue 1.
After such a good run of form, the Brittany side have moved up to third in the French table, occupying the final UEFA Champions League spot.
Despite a difficult victory over Sochaux, Rennes coach Laszlo Boloni was delighted with his team's performance and praised the fans' support.
"It was a beautiful match, both teams gave everything to attack. Our luck was that we were a little more realistic.
"We have to handle pressure. The audience felt emotion with us. We had 12 men against ten [Jean Calve was sent off for Sochaux in the second half]."
Rennes youngster Yoann Gourcuff (pictured) has been named player of the month for March. After his Rennes team-mate John Utaka won the award for the previous month, the midfielder was awarded the honour following impressive displays for Boloni's side.
The 19-year-old playmaker has been a revelation of recent weeks, and has already made 60 appearances in the French league. He has attracted interest from big clubs throughout Europe, including Arsene Wenger's Arsenal.
The son of Ligue 2 side Lorient's coach Christian Gourcuff, the young star racked up 45 percent of the votes to beat team-mate Utaka and Lyon's Sylvain Wiltord to the award.
