Rennes saw off Montepellier 5-3 after extra time in the Coupe de France.
Rennes booked their place in the semi-finals of the Coupe de France with an amazing 5-3 win over Montpellier.
Jerome Lafourcade netted a hat trick for Montpellier, but high-flying Rennes proved too strong for the visitors in extra time.
Rennes got off to a flying start with Jimmy Briand firing them in front within two minutes.
Lafourcade hit back for Montpellier eight minutes later to draw the sides level.
Neither side could find another goal in the remainder of the 90 minutes forcing the game into extra time.
Olivier Monterrubio put Rennes in firm control with a quick-fire double (97,102) in the first period of extra time.
However, Lafourcade reduced the arrears almost immediately, but John Utaka restored the two-goal cushion a minute before the end of the first period of extra time.
Swedish international Kim Kallstrom added a fifth goal ten minutes from the end meaning Lafourcade's third goal a minute later was nothing more than a mere consolation.
Nantes sealed their spot in the last four with a late 1-0 win over lowly CalaisFrederic Da Rocha grabbed the winner for Nantes two minutes from time to send them into the semi-finals.
