Rennes have received a major fillip by tying Olivier Monterrubio to a new contract.
Rennes have received a major fillip by tying key midfielder Olivier Monterrubio to a new contract.
The playmaker has been a key figure for the club ever since his arrival from Nantes in 2001 and his efforts last term caught the eye of a number of clubs.
Rennes were determined to retain his services and offered the 29-year-old a three-year deal.
Monterrubio claims he had a number of other options on the table, but was keen to continue working under Pierro Dreossi.
"I had other possibilities, but the fact that Pierro Dreossi is now in charge of the team is a real plus," Monterrubio told the club's official website.
"I love the club, and now we will have a competitive team next season.
"I am one of the oldest players at the club, I fancy being a leader on and off the pitch."
