Monaco grappled top spot in Ligue 1 from Auxerre after edging a tight encounter at Paris Saint Germain.
Auxerre had briefly moved to the head of the standings earlier on Sunday by thrashing Metz 4-0 but Emmanuel Adebayor sent Monaco to the top of the tree.
Adebayor's diving header on 83 minutes, from Douglas Maicon's cross, handed the Principality side the points and leaves PSG still searching for their first win of the campaign.
Metz had headed to Stade Abbe-Deschamps boasting an unbeaten record but that was blown apart by Auxerre's goal-hungry attack.
Benjamin Mwaruwari set the ball rolling with the opening goal on six minutes and he doubled the scoreline on 20 minutes.
Just four minutes later and Bonaventure Kalou had further extended the advantage while Lionel Mathis' 68th minute goal, after Metz's Venn Toure had been sent off, rounded off the scoring.
Lille perked up their season by claiming a 2-0 home triumph over promoted Caen.
Tottenham flop Milenko Acimovic netted the first goal on 23 minutes and Philippe Brunel wrapped up the points in the final minute.
Nice clinched their maiden victory of the league season by coming from behind to beat Sochaux 2-1 at home.
Fabien Boudarene put the away side in front after 12 minutes but Marama Vahirua restored parity in the 26th minute.
Victor Agali fired Nice ahead three minutes after half time and the South Coast club held out for their first success of the campaign.
