Stuttgart coach Matthias Sammer wasted no time after losing Brazilian international defender Marcelo Bordon to Schalke 04 and brought in Frenchman Matthieu Delpierre as a replacement.
The 23-year-old former France Under-21 international had served his contract with Lille, where he made 81 top-flight appearances and signed a four-year contract with the Swabians, who landed the tall stopper on a free transfer.
"His signing is a very good transfer because, despite his youth, Matthieu has gained plenty of experience in France and in European competitions and is a great prospect," said Sammer.
"We are convinced that he will strengthen our team."
Sammer (pictured) replaced the Bayern Munich-bound Felix Magath at Gottlieb-Daimler Stadium earlier this month.
After cashing in é¼5 million for the services of Bordon from big-spending league rivals Schalke, Stuttgart are expected to turn to the transfer market again this summer with Austrian international defender Martin Stranzl from relegated 1860 Munich believed to be their main target.
