Barcelona midfielder Gerard has admitted that he has contact with Monaco.Barcelona midfielder Gerard has admitted that he has contact with Monaco boss Didier Deschamps.
The Spanish midfielder is out of contract at Camp Nou in the summer and has yet to be offered a fresh deal by Frank Rijkaard.
Mark van Bommel's arrival from PSV Eindhoven will further limit Gerard's chances of first team football.
Rijkaard is thought to be keen to offer the 26-year-old a new deal but his role as a squad player will not be enough to satisfy the former Valencia man.
Gerard has admitted that former Mestalla team-mate Deschamps has been in touch about a possible move to The Principality, but did not know how far the deal had progressed.
"Indeed Didier did call me," Gerard told But! "But I don't want to tell you any more for the moment.
"I don't know how the discussions are improving."
Monaco's main stumbling block for the deal could be matching Gerard's wages at Camp Nou, but he could be willing to take a pay cut for regular action.
Deschamps is also hoping to land St Etienne's Ivory Coast international Didier Zokora.
However, despite a host of clubs chasing the African, he could well extend his stay with Les Verts by signing a new deal.
"The officials absolutely want to keep Didier and they will make him a contract offer that we will study," said Zokora's agent Franck Belhassen.
Meanwhile, Italian giants Milan are the latest club to check out Monaco's highly-rated full back Patrice Evra.
