Monaco captain Ludovic Giuly is ruing his moment of stupidity which landed him with a UEFA Champions League suspension.
Giuly was sent off during Monaco's 1-1 draw with PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday for slapping Mateja Kezman after responding to the Serbo-Montenegrin's provocation.
The gifted playmaker fears he will be punished with a four-match ban for his reaction which will rule him out of the first knockout round at least.
He admits it was folly to respond to Kezman's push but believes Monaco's inexperience at the highest level proved costly against the Dutch side.
"According to me, I will get a four-match ban," Giuly told L'Equipe. "Anyway, for the trip to Athens and the next round, it is over.
"Kezman made a bad gesture towards Gael Givet, I went to talk to him and he started to put his hand in my face. Defending myself, I slapped him with my left hand.
"I could have fallen on the pitch when he touched me but it is not the way I do things.
"It was a useless reaction, I made a little blunder. But I didn't want to hurt him, I am not a violent person.
"They succeeded in making us crack up. They have more experience than us and we saw that. You get bad knocks and become irritated by things you are not used to. We could have been smarter.
"Since September we have been fighting to play in the knockout round of the Champions League and I will miss it.
"It is hard but I trust my team-mates and I hope they will give me a beautiful present."
