AJA star defender Philippe Mexes and right back Jean-Sebastian Jaures were both injured before the game, while Djibril Cisse was still not fully fit after injury, leaving Roux depleted in numbers.
An Olivier Kapo striker gave Auxerre a slender 1-0 win over Philippe Bergeroo's struggling side, but Roux was delighted that his side battled hard for the victory.
"The years you win those kinds of matches, it is very interesting," said Roux.
"You can lose them too, 1-0, but when you get through quite well, that is points you appreciate a lot.
"We played one month without Kapo and Cisse. Against Rennes, Mexes, Jaures and Cisse were not present.
"I just play the best team I can with the means I have at the moment. Stephane Grichting (who replaced Mexes for the first time in the centre of the defence) has everything.
"He does well everything he can do. He defends well and gives the ball when he gets it back."
Despite a short group of players and a lot of matches to play, notably in the Champions League, the Auxerre manager refused to complain.
"The Bayern of Beckenbauer played 70 matches a year.
"The boys preferred that, take the money, rather than going to training sessions for free.
"Anyway, there is something clear - when you play in the European Cup, you can't complain, we are a privileged team in French football."
