Roux warns Houllier over Cisse

AUXERRE boss Guy Roux has revealed his determination to ward off any moves from his close friend Gerard Houllier for star striker Djibril Cisse.

Liverpool boss Houllier has confirmed his interest in the Auxerre ace as he looks to freshen up his squad for next season.

Houllier is set to meet Roux this month to discuss a possible move for jet-heeled hit-man Cisse and defender Jean-Alain Boumsong, but Roux insists he will fight tooth and nail to keep his prized assets.

The veteran coach also admitted that he would have to consider his own position should he lose Cisse and other stars and that his friendship with Houllier would have no bearing on possible transfers.

"I don't want him to leave, and I would have to consider my own position if he does," said Roux.

"This is not the right time to be talking about transfers.

"There are contracts running, and they have to be respected.

"I have heard the talk about Cisse - and Boumsong and (Philippe)Mexes - but they are contracted to this club, and I don't want them to leave.

"Cisse has a contract until 2007, and it has to be respected.

"I know Gerard well, but that alters nothing.

"It is not unusual for Auxerre players to be linked with moves abroad - it happens at the end of every season - but my feelings are clear."
