Jacques Santini has revealed Djibril Cisse and Philippe Mexes have been dropped from France's senior squad to aid the country's Under-21 cause.
The Auxerre duo have been omitted from France's party for the friendly against Germany on November 15.
Instead, they will feature in Raymond Domenech's side for the European Under-21 Championship double-header against Portugal, with Santini believing that is the best decision for French football.
"They are with the Under-21s for the good of French football," said Santini. "With Raymond Domenech, we have a very good relationship.
"There was a talk and considering the aim, it was important to let Mexes and Cisse play two competitive matches.
"It is important for them and for the Under-21 team."
Under-21 coach Domenech concedes the duo will be a little disheartened at being dropped by Les Bleus but does not believe it will have a negative impact on their displays against Portugal.
"We had a talk with Jacques but he took the decision all alone," said Domenech. "Am I relieved? No, I will be relieved only if we qualify.
"The most important thing is not the names but that the players present give their best. Only the state of mind is important.
"Even if they are a little disappointed not to be with Les Bleus, I am sure they will come with pleasure. I have no doubts about their desire, if so I would have a different thought."
