Jacques Santini has refused to give up on the race for the final Champions League spot.
Jacques Santini has refused to give up on the race for the final UEFA Champions League spot for a French team next season.
Victory at third-placed Lille would have seen his Auxerre side leapfrog into the third qualifying position, but they only managed a 1-1 draw.
But, despite the setback, Santini remained upbeat. He told L'Yonne-Republicaine: "We deserved the point because we played collectively.
"They led 1-0, but our team reacted in a very positive way. The side gave everything on the pitch, but one point doesn't satisfy us."
AJA currently find themselves in sixth place with three games remaining, just two points off the coveted Champions League spot.
Club captain Yann Lachuer was reflective and said it would be a typically Gallic finish to the season.
He said: "Lille have proved their talent, but we were also rewarded for our efforts, that is why I am happy to bring back this point.
"The end of the season will be a passionate affair."
Auxerre's next game is on Sunday against ninth placed Le Mans.
