Marseille clinched the French title with a 3-1 win over
Rennes after rivals Auxerre lost 2-1 at Lyon.
Marseille went into the game knowing a win would secure their first championship in 18 years after Auxerre slipped up at Lyon.
The home side got off to a flying start when Gabriel Heinze fired them in front after just four minutes, but Jimmy Briand threatened to spoil the party with an equaliser before the break.
Mamadou Niang restored Marseille's lead on 76 minutes and Lucho Gonzalez made sure of the title with a third two minutes later.
The win means Marseille have an unassailable eight-point lead at the summit after Lyon came from behind to beat Auxerre.
