PSG prevail at home, Montpellier continue chase and Brest win at last

Paris St Germain secured a sixth straight victory to remain top of the table, but Montpellier are hot on their heels. Marseille stretched their unbeaten run with a productive result on the road, while Brest picked up their first win of the season. Paris St Germain are three points clear of the chasing pack following a 4-2 victory over Caen. The league leaders fell behind at Parc des Princes as Thomas Heurtaux broke the deadlock on 13 minutes. They were soon level, though, as Nene converted from the penalty spot after Benjamin Nivet had seen red for the visitors. PSG took control of proceedings from that point on and Jeremy Menez edged them in front 10 minutes into the second half. Nene bagged his second of the game on 76 minutes, before Jerry Vandam handed Caen a lifeline eight minutes from time. There was to be no late drama, though, and Javier Pastore put the seal on a convincing home win in the closing stages.

Breakthrough

Montpellier remain second in Ligue 1 after seeing off lowly Nancy 2-0. They had to wait until just after the hour mark before opening the scoring, with Olivier Giroud forcing the breakthrough. Souleymane Camara added a second on 74 minutes to wrap up the points. Inconsistent Lyon overcame Mohamadou Dabo's second half dismissal to see off St Etienne 2-0. There were just eight minutes left on the clock when the ten men took the lead through Jimmy Briand. With St Etienne pushing for a late leveller, Yoann Gourcuff was able to take advantage of some gaping holes at the back and double Lyon's lead in stoppage time. Marseille are starting to climb the table and picked up a useful 3-2 victory at Dijon in their latest outing. Loic Remy had them in front inside 60 seconds and Benoit Cheyrou edged them further clear on 11 minutes. Dijon came back into the game in the first minute of the second half, as Brice Jovial struck, and Benjamin Corgnet hauled them level on 63 minutes. Marseille were to have the last laugh, though, as Alou Diarra pinched a winner on 82 minutes.
Double
Evian picked up their first win in 10 as they overcame Auxerre 3-1. A first half double from Yannick Sagbo (15 & 42) had Evian in complete control, and Cedric Barbosa added a third on 69 minutes. Dariusz Dudka pulled one back for Auxerre from the spot on 71minutes but it was too little, too late. Bordeaux won for the first time in eight games as they proved too strong for out-of-sorts Ajaccio. A brace from Yoan Gouffran (25 & 29) saw them to a welcome 2-0 success. Brest picked up their first win at the 12th time of asking, with Lorient put to the sword at Francis le Ble. Larsen Toure opened the scoring after four minutes and Bruno Grougi (35 & 42) netted another two before half-time. Bruno Ecuele Manga rescued some pride for Lorient on 54 minutes, but his solitary strike was not enough to prevent them from slipping to a 3-1 defeat.
