The Portuguese international has struggled to hold down a first-team place at the Artemio Franchi, and had been linked with moves to Paris Saint Germain and Olympiakos.
The 25-year-old was targeted by PSG in a cash-plus-player deal involving Brazilian Christian. However, this deal fell through when Christian moved to Bordeaux and although other players were linked with the deal, no official bid was made.
Now the £12 million signing from Benfica is happy to stay in Italy to prove his worth.
"Fiorentina did not receive a concrete offer from PSG and that was the only option that would have guaranteed me regular first-team football," said Gomes.
"But I'm happy in Florence, it suits me here. I feel content, and so I've stayed here."
Gomes says that he is satisfied Viola coach Roberto Mancini will give him a chance to impress in Italy and push for a place in the national team with the World Cup fast approaching.
"In June the World Cup finals start and I have to play if I'm to earn a place in the national team.
"It relieves me that coach Roberto Mancini has spoken to the squad and told us that we all start on level terms."
