Bastia coach Francois Ciccolini could be sacked after racially abusing Lorik Cana.Bastia coach Francois Ciccolini could be sacked after admitting to racially abusing Paris Saint Germain midfielder Lorik Cana.
The incident happened on Saturday during Ligue 1 strugglers Bastia's 1-0 defeat at Parc des Princes.
Ciccolini reacted furiously to a challenge by Cana on one of his players and abused the PSG ace about his Albanian citizenship.
The comments were reported to the French league and Ciccolini's case will be studied by a disciplinary committee on Thursday, with a heavy punishment likely to be meted out.
The coach, who signed a two-year deal when replacing Gerard Gili last summer, has owned up to his outburst after apologising to Cana.
"Indeed I said an unfortunate word," said Ciccolini. "It just came out with anger when one of our young players has been harshly challenged.
"I deeply and frankly regret such words. I called Lorik Cana and I apologised to him and he accepted it.
"He said the incident was over so I think there is no need to enter into a controversy anymore.
"However, I think I will be punished by the disciplinary committee but I could also be punished in another way."
Cana has confirmed he has spoken to Ciccolini to clear the air and is now happy to put the matter to rest.
"Ciccolini called me," said Cana. "It is good he did it to allow us to settle the problem between men.
"He apologised and explained he lost his temper and he has got carried away.
"He didn't want to offend me or make racist comments. I think he is honest and the problem is settled between us.
"In France I have never heard that kind of abuse yet. What the League decide is not up to me anymore."
Bastia, though, could decide to wield the axe, particularly as the club are languishing in the relegation zone.
It is also not the first occasion this season that the Corsican club have been involved in a race row as two of their players were abused by Bastia fans back in November.
