Pedro Pauleta has been suspended for two games for abusing a referee's assistant.
Paris Saint Germain striker Pedro Pauleta has been suspended for two games for abusing a female referee's assistant.
Portugal's all-time record goalscorer found himself in hot water in the 1-0 Ligue 1 win over Rennes when he was dismissed in injury time for receiving two yellow cards in the space of 60 seconds.
Assistant referee Corinne Lagrange then claimed in her match report that Pauleta had called her a 'cow', something that the striker has since denied.
However a disciplinary committee has now handed the PSG star a two-game ban following the incident, with a further match suspended.
Pauleta's insult has dragged the Parisians under the disciplinary microscope once again after Pierre-Alain Frau was suspended for two months following a dangerous tackle on Sedan star Stephane Noro that left the midfielder with cruciate ligament damage.
PSG are now appealing against the lengthy ban, with chairman Alain Cayzac expressing his disappointment at the treatment of his club by the French league in recent weeks.
"I am shocked by the harshness of sanctions towards PSG," said Cayzac.
