NANTES CLOSE TO YEPES DEAL

THE transfer of Colombian defender Mario Yepes from River Plate to French side Nantes looks to be going ahead after the Argentinian club's directors voted in favour of his sale.

The director's commission voted in favour of the move at a meeting to discuss the future of the 25-year-old, who has been linked with the move for some time.

The deal looked to be going ahead during the summer but the club's could not agree on a final fee for Yepes, but he now looks like being on his way after reportedly agreeing to a four-year deal with The Canaries.

The French side are to pay a fee of around £4 million for Yepes, which will be split between River Plate and Gustavo Mascardi who owns half of the player, although only the Argentinian club have agreed to sell their share of the defender.

Nantes have had a terrible start to the defence of their French title and badly need reinforcements to kick-start their season.

Yepes has been a long-term target for the club and they will be delighted to bring him in during the winter transfer window to boost the squad for next year.
