Nantes close to Bastia swoop

STRUGGLING French champions Nantes are close to landing Argentinian Adrian Bastia, according to his club Racing.

The Canaries have had to endure a disastrous defence of their title this season, and new coach Angel Marcos has turned to his home country for help.

He has already landed Nestor Fabbri, Mauro Ceto and Mario Yepes from Argentina, and is looking to add to that contingent with the signing of Bastia.

The Argentine club's director Fernando Marin claimed that Nantes had tabled a £2.5 million offer for the midfielder, and they seem happy for him to leave.

"We received the offer at the weekend and we couldn't say no. It is an excellent chance for the player," said Marin.

The 23-year-old has been part of the Racing side that captured the title this season, but the deepening financial crisis in the country has led to many of the league's top stars leaving for pastures new.

Milan, Borussia Dortmund, and Aston Villa are all believed to have had representatives in South America checking him out, but it seems as though Nantes are in the driving seat for his signature.
