Les Canaries have had a simply awful season in defence of their title, with the threat of relegation hanging over Stade Beaujoire for much of the season.
Championnat football was secured on Saturday, though, when Vahirua fired home a brace that brought all three points over Lorient.
After the game, a clearly relieved Vahirua said: "That enables us to relax and think of things other than survival.
"This double here in La Beaujoire will be a good memory.
"We do not have to worry too much in the final two games, but we will still be strong even if it will be tough physically."
With Nantes` top-flight status assured, Vahirua appears set to shift his focus to the national team.
He added: "The only thing I can do about not being selected for the hopes is to work hard and try to regain my place."
