Ferguson is believed to have already watched the Cameroonian star in action earlier this year, but now it has emerged that the United supremo took advantage of his side's early kick-off to make the trip to the French capital.
The Red Devils are in talks with Nantes over a proposed link-up, similar to the one they have just agreed with Sporting Lisbon, and Ferguson is thought to have joined United officials, who had already planned a trip.
Nantes were playing Paris Saint Germain in the Coupe de Lique and they won their way into the next round with a 3-2 thanks to a brace from Mario Yepes and a Sylvain Armand goal.
Although Djemba-Djemba is thought to have been Ferguson's main interest, the form of left back Armand is sure to have caught his attention.
Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers are also looking at the full back, who could be set for a January switch to The Premiership.
United's interest in 21-year-old Djemba-Djemba is unlikely to herald an immediate move, but the Manchester club's new found ties with Nantes could very well give them first refusal on any of the French club's squad in the future.
Meanwhile, United's Portuguese partners Sporting have confirmed that Ferguson's side will open their new stadium in Lisbon on August 6 next year.
