Veteran keeper Fabien Barthez has confirmed he will not play for Nantes again.
Fabien Barthez has confirmed he will not play for Nantes again after his altercation with a group of fans at the weekend.
The veteran keeper was set upon by Nantes supporters as he attempted to leave the ground following Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Rennes.
Reports quickly surfaced that the former Manchester United shot-stopper had walked out on the club and would not return.
Barthez has now admitted he has left Les Canaris, conceding he would not feel safe if he went back to Ligue 1's bottom club.
"I don't feel safe there anymore," Barthez told French radio station France Info.
"I won't play with Nantes again. I don't feel ready to live like that, so I want to leave.
"It has nothing to do with football nor results. What happened crossed the sporting boundary.
"I can accept being booed during the match, I accept it because it is part of the job.
"Without that event, I would have stayed until the end with Nantes."
