PSG punish Caen as Toulouse hold Rennes

Paris St Germain boosted their European hopes with a 2-0 victory at home to Caen, while Rennes and Toulouse drew 0-0. Rennes suffered only their second defeat of the Ligue 1 season last time out and they were unable to return to winning ways against Toulouse. The sides started the day in fourth and fifth but drop a place each following the stalemate, with Paris St Germain jumping up to third. Caen, without a win in their last five games, held PSG in the first half of their encounter at Parc des Princes. But Guillaume Hoarau broke the deadlock three minutes after the interval and Peguy Luyindula, linked with a move to West Brom this month, added a second ten minutes later. Valenciennes continued their encouraging run with a narrow 1-0 success against eighth-placed Nice. Gregory Pujol grabbed the decisive goal with 13 minutes remaining but Valenciennes remain in the relegation zone. Le Havre occupy bottom spot and they suffered a seventh consecutive defeat as they lost 3-2 to Nancy. Armadou Alassane fired Le Havre in front after 12 minutes but Nancy hit back to take a 2-1 lead thanks to goals from Julien Feret (16) and Jonathan Brison (31). Le Havre thought they had salvaged a point when Alassane netted his second of the evening on 90 minutes, but there was still time for Landry N'Guemo to strike for Nancy. Monaco claimed their first victory in six games as they defeated Grenoble 1-0 courtesy of Alexandre Licate's goal on 67 minutes. Yohan Poulard (53) and Frederic Da Rocha (66) found the target for Nantes in their 2-0 win at stuttering Le Mans. Auxerre failed to win for an eighth consecutive match as they played out a goalless draw with Lorient.
