Sevilla climbed above Athletic Bilbao and up to sixth in La Liga with a 2-0 victory on Saturday.
Kevin Gameiro struck twice for the home side, his first coming in the 24th minute, then adding a penalty just before the hour mark.
The result saw Sevilla move above their rivals, but still seven points behind Villarreal in fourth, who are still to play on Sunday.
Alvaro Vazquez scored the only goal of the game as Getafe beat Real Betis 1-0 at home. Vazquez struck in the 57th minute as Getafe climbed up to 12th in the table.
Elsewhere, Bottom club Levante got only their third win of the season as they saw off fellow basement club Rayo Vallecano 2-1, with Deyverson (72) and Jose Luis Morales (80) getting the goals for the hosts and Pablo Hernandez scoring for Rayo.
