Athletic Bilbao moved up to fifth in La Liga with a narrow 1-0 win at Getafe on Saturday.

Inaki Williams' goal in the 24th minute was enough to give Athletic the victory, before Cala was sent off for the hosts for a second bookable offence in the final minute.

After Barcelona had beaten Atletico Madrid 2-1 in their top-of-the-table clash earlier on Saturday, Villarreal strengthened their grip on the fourth Champions League place with a 1-0 win over Granada thanks to Bruno Soriano's penalty in the 55th minute.

Real Sociedad earned only their second win in nine games, seeing off Real Betis 2-1. Xabier Prieto and Inigo Martinez gave Sociedad a two-goal first-half lead, before Ruben Castro halved the deficit in the second period.

Elsewhere, Malaga won 2-1 at Eibar to move up to 10th in the La Liga standings.

Juanpi put Malaga ahead on the stroke of half-time, before former Blackburn and Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz doubled their lead.
