Another tough week in Matchday 8 of #RevistaPredictor

Revista Predictor

It's been another tough week in the #RevistaPredictor, despite some seemingly easier games to forecast on Matchday 8 of La Liga - and correct first goalscorers appear to be extremely hard to come by, as David Garrido explains.

The Revista Predictor is chuckling away to himself at our ineptitude - the word "expert" has never been so loosely used, and it certainly isn't too apt right now when the five supposedly sharp minds can only muster two correct scorelines between them.

MATCH 1 - ATHLETIC 1-0 SEVILLA

Rob Palmer backed the home side to win this, despite injuries to key players in a limited squad, and Sevilla having started the season strongly in terms of results if not performances. Mikel Vesga's dinked shot did cross the line before Aritz Aduriz got a touch, denying Rob the full 10 points for the first goalscorer as well. No points elsewhere, but a welcome win for Athletic Club on their return from the break.

MATCH 2 - ATLETICO 1-1 BARCELONA

Had Lionel Messi scored after 30 seconds, it would have been myself and Jon laughing our way up the standings, but not to be - the effort went just inches wide instead. No-one picked Saul to open the scoring, but both Kevin Keatings and David Phillips pick up four points for the 1-1 scoreline they predicted, Rob gets another single point for getting the match outcome right (i.e. saying it would be a draw). Importantly, Barcelona's winning run is over, so they lead by just four points now after Valencia won 6-3 away to Real Betis, with Real Madrid just a further point behind after Cristiano Ronaldo scored late on to give them all three points at Getafe. Title race back on.

MATCH 3 - MALAGA 0-2 LEGANES

This has proved the low point of the #RevistaPredictor season so far. All of our pundits reckoned Leganes wouldn't even score at the Estadio La Rosaleda, but instead they got two goals and picked up another crucial victory to leave them sixth after eight games, which in itself is astounding. It's a dreadful result for Malaga who remain bottom with just one point from the 24 on offer so far. The bottom six teams currently, with Deportivo, Eibar, Girona, Las Palmas and Alaves directly above Michel's side, could well still be there next May.

Little movement in the #RevistaPredictor standings then, save for Kevin and Rob giving themselves a bit of an advantage at the top, and David Phillips cosying up to Jon in third and leaving me adrift. But it's only a fifth of the season gone, so I'm not panicking... just yet.

Only one mention from Twitter - and that was Bob, aka @RHMurdoch93, who went for Saul as first goalscorer at the Wanda Metropolitano - we doff our collective Spanish sombrero to you.
