Matchday 12: #RevistaPredictor gets its own back

Revista Predictor

There were no big scorers as the #RevistaPredictor got its own back on Matchday 12 in LaLiga - David Garrido explains...

The return to action in Spain's top division could have been celebrated with a glut of big scores, but not to be. The Predictor wasn't having it. Three reasonable games to predict, but not a single correct first goalscorer to be seen.

Ah well, never mind...

MATCH 1 - SEVILLA 2-1 CELTA VIGO

It looked like a shock might be on the cards early on at the Sanchez Pizjuan when Maxi Gomes put Celta in front, and had it stayed that way, it would have left everyone pointless.

But goals from Colombian striker Luis Muriel and the winner from Nolito meant the top two, Kevin Keatings and Jon Driscoll, got four points each for an exactly right scoreline.

There was also a point apiece for Rob Palmer and David Phillips, but nothing whatsoever for me. Sevilla needed this win to prove they can still mix it with Atletico, Real Madrid, etc. Speaking of which...

MATCH 2 - ATLETICO 0-0 REAL MADRID

There will be goals, we all said. How wrong we were. A raft of bookings, mainly in the last half-hour of the first ever Madrid derby at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano, proved how Diego Simeone's side set out to deny and frustrate Madrid, and ultimately job done.

At least, Mssrs Driscoll, Keatings and Phillips were correct in terms of the overall match outcome, predicting the points would be shared. Rob and I went for away wins - nothing doing here.

Ultimately this was a game which helped no one... apart from Barcelona, who, after their comfortable win at Leganes, now find themselves a huge 10 points clear of both Madrid teams after just 12 games. Is LaLiga theirs to lose already?

MATCH 3 - MALAGA 3-2 DEPORTIVO

The game that two pundits, Rob and Jon, thought would be goalless proved anything but.

Malaga sneaked it, having been 2-1 down with 30 minutes left - Chory Castro and Swansea loan striker Borja Baston helping them turn it around at La Rosaleda to pick up only their second win of the season.

David P was the only man who had backed the hosts so another point there, which prompts the only change as far as the overall #RevistaPredictor table is concerned.

The two Davids swap places separated by that single point, while Kevin maintains his five-point advantage over Jon, and Rob remains adrift at the bottom by the same margin. Still plenty of time to go though...

To your shoutouts on Twitter. A couple of excellent efforts worth mentioning:

@SamLeveridge is back to his early season form - we doff our collective cap to Sam who got scorelines exactly right at the Sanchez Pizjuan and the Wanda, whilst also saying Malaga would beat Deportivo. 15 points.

@Gavrisk earned 14 points for a correct scoreline in the Sevilla-Celta game and his 0-0 prediction for the derby.

We're back on Friday with hopefully a not-too-tricky trio of games for Matchday 12 of LaLiga, so look out for those on our Twitter feed, @SkyRevista.
