Lionel Messi's second half double helped Barcelona to a 2-1 win over Sevilla at Camp Nou.
The brilliant playmaker's strike on 73 minutes and a penalty ten minutes from time were enough to give Barca the points and send Sevilla to their first defeat in the league this season.
Sevilla came close to breaking the deadlock on 21 minutes when Renato saw his header come back off the woodwork.
Deco went close to scoring a minute before the break when he let fly from the edge of the box with his shot just swerving wide of the target.
Thierry Henry missed a great chance to score on 55 minutes when he rose highest to meet Andres Iniesta's free-kick only to glance his header off target.
Rafael Marquez was inches away from scoring three minutes later when he headed Iniesta's corner against the post.
Henry was the next player to hit the woodwork when he saw Andres Palop divert his shot onto the post on 71 minutes.
Barcelona finally hit the front two minutes later when Henry superbly picked out Messi's run into the box and the little Argentinian teed the ball up for himself before volleying his shot past Palop.
The home side won a penalty ten minutes from time when Christian Poulsen was adjudged to have held Giovani Dos Santos inside the box and Messi took responsibility from the spot sending Palop the wrong way to double Barcelona's advantage.
Fredi Kanoute pulled a goal back in the closing seconds with a clinical finish, but it was too little too late for Sevilla as Barcelona took all three points.
Recreativo Huelva recorded their first win of the season with a 2-1 win over Espanyol.
Espanyol got off to a flying start with Alberto Riera firing them in front from a free-kick after just five minutes.
Recreativo drew level on 54 minutes with Javi Guerrero scoring a superb equaliser as he flicked the ball from one foot to the other before smashing a brilliant volley past Carlos Kameni.
Guerrero grabbed the winner for Recreativo on the hour mark when he burst clear and coolly lifted the ball over the on-rushing Kameni.
