Ronald Koeman has told Santiago Canizares and David Albelda that they will not play in Valencia's last two games before Christmas.
The Dutchman is keen to make changes to his side following a miserable run of form, in which Valencia have not won in four Primera Liga games and failed to score in six.
The duo have been told that they will not participate in the Copa del Rey game on Wednesday or the final league fixture of the year at the weekend.
"With respect to everyone and to Canizares and Albelda, I have explained everything to them," Koeman said.
"We have decided that they will not be in the squad. They will not play in the next two games and then we shall see about the future.
"These are strong decisions that we have to take for the good of Valencia and that is most important.
"I want to change things and give opportunities to other players."
Koeman conceded that it could cause problems in the dressing room, but explained that he was willing to take a risk.
"It could do. There will be people that criticise me and people that agree with me, but I have to accept that and keep working.
"I am working on my own plans and that is to change things. Only the future will decide if I have made a mistake or not."
Meanwhile, Koeman has been hit with the news that he will be without Fernando Morientes for up to a month.
The striker ruptured a muscle in his left leg during the 3-0 loss to Barcelona last Sunday, and joins David Villa (hamstring) on the sidelines.
"Things are not very good this season and now the injuries are damaging the work in the team," Koeman said.
