David Albelda is optimistic he can salvage his international career as he seeks an exit from Valencia.
The 30-year-old has been capped 51 times by Spain but has found himself on the periphery of the national side after falling out of favour at the Spanish club.
Albelda has found himself frustrated for some time, and is in the process of on-going legal procedures as he looks for a route out of the Estadio Mestalla in time for the Euro 2008 selection.
The midfielder played the opening 62 minutes in Spain's 1-0 win over France on Wednesday night and revealed his burning desire to salvage his international career.
Optimistic
"It was a special game for me with everything that has been going on," he said.
"I wanted to prove I am in shape and training well. I am looking to the future with optimism."
Spain coach Luis Aragones realises the importance and influence the defensive midfielder has on the national side, but admits he must be playing regularly to become a prominent feature in his Euro 2008 set-up.
"Albelda gives us an important defensive balance because he is someone who understands the role of a central midfielder, he manages it well, and this allows the wide players to push up more into attack," Aragones told reporters.
"But he knows if he doesn't play regularly it will be hard for him, although I believe he will find a way to play and fight for a place at Euro 2008."
