Real president keen on French star

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has declared an interest in Franck Ribery of Bayern Munich. Perez is looking to challenge treble-winners Barcelona next season and has outlined a vision to bring several of the world's best players to the Santiago Bernabeu. Kaka is tipped to join Real from AC Milan, while Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo continues to be linked with the Spanish club. Perez has now set his sights on a third target by announcing that he wants to bring in French playmaker Ribery. "I'm going to meet with my friends (Bayern president) Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and (general manager) Uli Hoeness to ask them about their intentions (for Ribery)," Perez told L'Equipe. "I hope to be able to count on him for this year." Chelsea were also understood to be interested in Kaka earlier this week but they have denied making a bid and Perez expects to secure the Brazilian's signature in the near future. "I think if Kaka leaves Milan it will be to join Real. I am very optimistic," he said. Manuel Pellegrini will have the chance to work with any new arrivals during the 2009/10 campaign after being appointed as manager earlier this week.
