AC Milan director Leonardo Cantamessa has revealed Luis Fabiano's proposed move from Sevilla has reached a 'dead end'.
A transfer appeared to be in the offing after Milan head coach Leonardo recently claimed the Serie A giants were "closer" to signing the Brazil forward.
However, talks appear to have broken down, with Sevilla reportedly reluctant to accept an offer lower than Fabiano's alleged buy-out clause of £25million.
"The negotiations for Luis Fabiano have reached a dead end," Cantamessa told
Sky Sport Italia.
Cantamessa also denied rumours Milan were trying to acquire the forward for just under £10million by talking to the Rio company that owns 65 per cent of his contract.
He added: "Our talks have always been with Sevilla and only with that club, not the player. We have made our offer and, as they said no, it has been revoked.
"You need to ask (vice-president Adriano) Galliani if there will be another offer, but at this moment I really don't think so."
However, Jose Fuentes, the striker's agent, told
tuttomercatoweb: "We are waiting for Milan to return as their first offer was a little too low.
"Milan must push a little more. If not, the negotiations could continue for some time."
"The market value of the player is around €20million (£17m), and this seems to me to be the right figure.
"Milan remain the only club we are speaking to. We have given them our word and we intend to respect that."
