Valdes, a product of the Nou Camp youth academy, has announced he will not be agreeing a contract extension beyond June 2014.
Reports suggest the 31-year-old, who has made 366 appearances for Barcelona, is ready to experience new cultures and different languages, prompting speculation over who will take the number one jersey.
One man in the frame is Brazilian international Alves, who appears to be flattered by the links to the 22-time Primera Liga winners Barcelona.
"Who wouldn't like to play for Barcelona? It's the team that are on top," he said. "I am sorry that Valdes is leaving, he is a big loss.
"I see him as the goalkeeper who is in exceptional form; he is one of the best in the world at the moment.
"A move to Barcelona doesn't depend on me, there is always speculation mentioning my name, but nothing official. I'll keep doing my job at Valencia, with whom I have a contract until 2015."
The 26-year-old, who has seven Brazil caps, appears to be leading the race to succeed Valdes at the Nou Camp while Chelsea's Petr Cech and Manchester United's David de Gea have also been linked in the past.
Meanwhile, Valdes - who proved instrumental in Barcelona's 4-0 victory over Rayo at the weekend, saving a second penalty in as many weeks - is being linked with French Ligue 1 big-spenders Monaco and Manchester City in the Premier League.
