Barcelona defender Daniel Alves has expressed his surprise at the suggestion that Xavi could leave this summer.

Spain international Xavi has been at Barca his entire career, but he has been linked with a move to Qatar after the World Cup.

Al-Arabi coach Dan Petrescu has claimed that the 34-year-old midfielder has signed a pre-contract agreement with his club, although the player himself has yet to comment on his future.

Both Alves and Xavi are currently on international duty with Brazil and Spain respectively at the World Cup, and it appears that the former is now aware of the recent news surrounding his club team-mate.

"Are you kidding me?" the 31-year-old right-back told AS when made aware of Xavi’s current situation.

"I cannot believe it. You must be kidding. It cannot be. Not Xavi. If Xavi, who is the emblem of the club, can leave, then anyone can leave now.

“I don't understand it. You have me in shock. It can't be. Xavi cannot leave Barca."
