Stoke City will face fierce competition from Deportivo de La Coruna in their pursuit of Barcelona striker Bojan Krkic after coach Victor Fernandez stated he wants to sign him.

The Galician club won promotion back to the Spanish top flight last season and the new boss hopes to add quality to his squad to cope with life in La Liga.

Bojan is available for loan again after spending a year at Ajax and Fernandez is hopeful that his friendship with the 23-year-old will swing things in his favour.

"I spoke to Bojan because I have a good personal relationship with him," he told La Voz de Galicia.

"He is not my player though and I do not like to talk about this, but I think he is great and fits perfectly the profile of player that we want.

"Here he could find enough space to explode into the definitive player."

Deportivo have signed Isaac Cuenca this summer after Barcelona agreed to rescind his contract and Fernandez is looking to add more players of that calibre.

"We are looking for players that, in principle, would be seen as important players and their standing would give them status within the squad," he added.

"Now we need a percentage of very good players and players that nobody has doubts about who will carry some weight behind them."

Cuenca has been joined at Depor by defender Roberto Canella from Sporting Gijon and the club are hopeful of finalising a deal for Spanish winger Lucas Perez from PAOK Salonica this week.
