The Turkish giants, fancied to make an impression on the tournament this season, could not follow up their opening win against Lokomotiv Moscow with a solid performance against group favourites Barca.
"We have not played as we wanted to," admitted coach Fatih Terim.
"We could not win the game.
"We will discuss what our reasons for failure are as I could have made a mistake.
"But everybody has to think about their mistakes.
"After that match, we know that the Brugge game is very important for us.
"As for the referee, Messina is a good official. There is nothing to say about the referee."
Captain Bulent Korkmaz echoed the sentiments of his manager.
"We could not play well," he conceded. "We have to think about the next matches.
"We will get ready for the Brugge game."
Louis van Gaal was suitably satisfied after his team streaked clear at the top of the group with their comfortable success in Istanbul.
"I watched the Lokomotiv match on video to understand Galatasaray," he revealed.
"I told my players what I saw.
"I learned about the Galatasaray squad from the Turkish press. So I picked my squad from the information that Fatih Terim has changed his game-plan twice.
"We had to win so we won the match.
"That was important for us."
