The Brazilian midfielder will make the move to Lisbon after the two sides agreed a fee of é¼500,000.
Coach Jose Antonio Camacho was said to be furious after Benfica initially offered only half of the é¼600,000 demanded by the Catalans, but the Portuguese club have now relented.
The former Spain national team boss has said that he will only remain at the Portuguese club if they qualify for Europe and handed them a list of players he needs to complete that task.
But his agent Peter de Philip claimed that Benfica were trying to sign players on the cheap and other clubs were not prepared to play ball.
After the public criticism, Benfica offered Barcelona a further é¼200,000 and have now got their man as Geovanni flew into sign a loan contract.
The Estadio De La Luz-based side have agreed to pay 65 percent of the player's wages, but are unlikely to take up an option to buy.
Barcelona paid Cruzeiro nearly é¼21 million for Geovanni two years ago, but he has failed to impress coach Louis van Gaal this term and has completed only one full game.
