Goals by Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo sealed the points for Real, who showed more endeavour in attack than their Depor counterparts throughout the match.
Zidane opened the scoring a minute before the break after finishing a ball that was played into the box from the right, as the home side's first half pressure finally paid off.
Victory was sealed four minutes after the break as Ronaldo latched to an excellent Zidane pass at the top of Depor's box to finish with authority.
The win puts Real further ahead at the top of the table, with La Coruna now six points behind the Spanish leaders.
Villarreal got two goals in injury time to deny Real Sociedad, after coming from behind to earn a 2-2 draw at The Anoeta.
Substitute Victor and Jorge Lopez got the visitors' goals in the dying stages, as Sociedad looked to be cruising to victory.
Darko Kovacevic gave the home side a 1-0 half-time lead before scoring his second from the penalty spot but in the end it was not to be, as Villarreal's heroics denied them all three points.
Fourth place Valencia failed to repeat the heroics of mid-week in the Champions League, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Espanyol at The Mestalla.
The visitors took the lead eight minutes in through David Garcia but Ruben Baraja was able to salvage a point on the hour mark for the home side.
Celta Vigo are fifth after coming from a goal down to defeat Athletic Bilbao 2-1 at the Estadio Balaidos.
Asier Del Horno gave the visitors a 1-0 lead after seven minutes but Celta's new signing Mido was able to get on the score-sheet with an equaliser mid-way through the opening half.
With 13 minutes to go, South African international Benni McCarthy struck the winner to give Celta the three points.
Sevilla move up one place to seventh with a 3-2 victory over struggling Alaves at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
The home side took a 1-0 half-time through Francisco Casquero but Ruben Navarro equalised just before the hour mark.
The visitors went in front through Martin Astudillo with 12 minutes remaining but a Jose Reyes penalty and an own-goal by Antonio Karmona in the last seven minutes sealed the win for Sevilla.
Real Betis dropped a place in the table after being held to a 0-0 draw by Malaga at La Rosaleda.
Barcelona built on their midweek Champions League win at Newcastle United by crushing Racing Santander 6-1 at Camp Nou.
The Catalans shot out to a 3-0 half-time lead with two goals from Patrick Kluivert and a strike from Juan Roman Riquelme.
Javi Guerrero made it 3-1 two minutes after the break but a three-goal Barca flourish in the final ten minutes completed what was an eventual rout.
A brace inside three minutes from Marc Overmars and a Gaizka Mendieta penalty a minute before the end made it 6-1 to the home side.
Real Valladolid move up a place to tenth on goal difference, despite going down to a 2-1 defeat in Mallorca.
The visitors silenced Estadio Son Moix on the stroke of half-time as Jonathan gave Valladolid a 1-0 lead at the break.
However, Mallorca overturned that deficit with two second half goals in a minute from Walter Pandiani and Alberto Riera, as the Islanders took the points.
Osasuna moved up a place to 15th in La Liga, despite being held to a 1-1 draw by bottom club Recreativo Huelva at the Nuevo Colombino.
John Aloisi had put the visitors in front five minutes after the break but Mariano Pernia scored a vital equaliser for Recre with five minutes remaining to earn a share of the points.
