The Spanish international hit-man has spent the season on loan at El Estadio Ruiz de Lopera, but has seen his time back at his former club blighted by injury.
The 30-year-old has managed just 11 league starts this campaign, and a further four as a substitute, netting a total of six goals.
Despite being completely out of favour at Camp Nou Barcelona are still asking Betis around é¼2.5 million (£1.6 million) for the injury-cursed player, a figure the Seville-based outfit are refusing to meet as it would constitute the majority of their summer transfer kitty.
Betis president Manuel Ruiz de Lopera has made it clear he wants to bring Alfonso back to the club, but says Barca must change their stance before he is willing to do business.
"We still want Alfonso," he declared, before adding; "We won't be paying that.
"The fact is the days of spending four or five million are long behind us."
